Guatemala

In Guatemala, three projects are ongoing: one in Flores, another in the Mayan Uaxactun village deep in the Peten jungles, and the last in Huehuetenango, in the Guatemalan highlands. These projects serve hundreds of students and provide basic educational tools to the students and teachers, including tuition payment and helping these students with basic school supplies.

Many students have benefited from Las Gaviotas Foundation scholarships at Flores:

  • Eyrin Cristina, Castillo Obando, Marlene Denia, Moro Lopez, and  Nereida Amibet Vargas Lucero graduated and are pursuing careers in construction drawing.
  • Wilson Omar Romero Baños, Francisco Solis Choc Cuc, Dubón Quiroa, Jilma Ynaeth, Eduard Gabriel, Molina Moro, Edwin Oswaldo, and Godoy Paz graduated and are pursuing careers in computers.
  • Noemi Zapete Cabrera and Teresa Zapete Cabrera graduated and are pursuing careers as primary school teachers.
  • Donal Alexander Pazos, Jonathan Gabriel Jesús, Carrera Canek, and Rony David Pazos graduated and are pursuing careers in industrial electronics.
  • Christian Pernillo Orellana graduated and is pursuing a career in accounting.

Donal Alexander Pazos and Wilson Omar Romero Baños served or are serving two-year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
